Diablo 2 Lord Of Destruction Installation Problems
Hello, I also tried to install Diablo II on the way to install DIablo II LOD. I received the same error when it mentions to install the CINEMATICS disk first which I found odd, I would have thought to use the install disk first as a normal windows installation. Anyway my cdrom gets mounted as '/media/CINEMATICS'. I tried all different variations but the error 'Error: Unable to find the CD-ROM!'

Hello, Good news it was able to find the CINEMATICS, PLAY DISC and INSTALL DISC! However it just flipped through the discs as fast as I could get the discs ejected and inserted. I never get to see an actual installation of the software and it was too fast even to be a copy of software from the disc's.
ON GETTING DISCS EJECTED: (maybe all this goes away once I can do the actual install) When instructed to insert other discs at beginning of process with the instruction of: Please insert 'Install disc', if you try to eject the previous disc it cannot be done because the PlayOnLinux software has the drive being used and you cannot unmount it until you press 'Forward' (instructions say press 'Next' button which I cannot locate;-) ) which you can then eject the disc and insert the correct disc. ALSO TRIED TO INSTALL D2 LOD With that install I get the same error as before when trying to find the cd-rom ('Error: Unable to find the CD-ROM!' ) maybe this install needs the same fix as Diablo II did to find the discs? Thanks for the help so far, I feel like we are getting close. Saturday 3 October 2009 at 9:33. Hello, Good news it was able to find the CINEMATICS, PLAY DISC and INSTALL DISC! Quote from gparobbins The installation script was tested with Polish language version of Diablo II and on install disc there was install.exe. What executable files do you've got in root directory of your install disc? What language version do you've got?
POL asks you about all that cds because it needs to know where are mount points of these cds. It doesn't mean to copy anything. At inserting third cd (install disc) it should start diablo II setup.

Quote from gparobbins Yes it needs the same fix, but do you've got install.exe in root directory of your D2LOD cd? Tuesday 15 December 2009 at 3:37. Symbolic links allow you to switch targets easily. 1) Grab ALL disk images as RAW with dd, you get ISO images.
2) create folders for each disk in /mnt (/mnt/d2inst, /mnt/d2play etc) 3) create a SYMBOLIC link to d2inst folder, in my case was named /mnt/d2 ($ln d2play d2) 4) mount all ISOs with mount -o loop option 5) launch normal custom new install from POL, pointing to /mnt/d2 - when you get asked to switch CDs, alt-tab to console and switch symlink($ln d2) - get back to window and press continue - I got game installed, with expansion. 1.12 patch thankfully removes stupid CP, no other things needed. Maybe glidewrapper, if you want OpenGL acceleration(see wine appdb).

The problem starts when it asks me for the play disk to begin installation. I put in the play disk, and it never recognizes it. The installer just keeps asking for the play disk even though it's sitting in the drive. What's more, if I go back to the installer home screen where it asks you pick installation version, and have the play disk in, it asks me for the install disk. I put the install disk in, and it recognizes that one. So, it's recognizing the install disk, but not the play disk. There's a scratch on my play disk, but it still installed just fine for windows (problem is windows doesn't run my sound or internet).

Yep, when it asks for disc location, you can just browse to the folder in which you placed the files and it will read from there, whether it's an actual CD drive or not. If it doesn't let you choose your drive location again (which I don't expect), just replace the content of your folder with the second disc's files; it will look there again and find the new set of files. So you can prepare: Folder A: Copy of Disc 1 Folder B: Copy of Disc 2 Folder C: Where you will direct the installer after putting in the files corresponding to the CD it's asking for.
As for the rest of your post, I'm not sure what you mean by 'can't touch any of the files on the CDs'. You're not able to copy and paste them? I've managed to get Diablo 2 + LoD installed via the scripts (PoL version 3.8.6) with the English retail CDs. No problem as such with the first Diablo 2 script -except that Blizzard's install procedure will again ask for one of the earlier CDs and continue installing files from it. PoL's wizard doesn't mention this, after the cinematics cd, the script will continue as if installation from the discs is finished at that point. I just unmounted / mounted manually outside PoL at this point, no bother.
I had more trouble with Lord of Destruction. The script calls for 'install.exe' when in actual fact the file it needs to look for is called 'installer.exe' -at least on my retail copy.
To get by this I just copied the contents of LoD disc to a folder on my desktop, renamed the the exe file, so the script could find it. It then installed normally after that.
Monday 3 January 2011 at 10:46. Hello, so I've read this thread through and it looks like others have had variations on the same issue I'm having. Basically, I try to install Diablo II (Battle Chest edition) through PlayOnLinux 4.2.4. I follow the instructions - clicking on Next in POL when it asks for the next disc, and so forth. I've attempted the 'Full Installation' with all cinematics, and just the multiplayer install, which is everything but the cinematics.
Everything goes smoothly through the process of. Insert Disc 1: Install - Works Fine Insert Disc 2: Play - Works Fine Insert Disc 3: Cinematics - Works Fine Re-Insert Disc 1: Install.
This is where the trouble happens. When it asks me to go back to the Install disc again, it does not recognize that the disc is in the drive. I've tried unmounting and remounting the CD, but no good. The installation pretty much halts and I can go no further.
I've tried copying the files to a folder on my desktop, and that doesn't work either. It won't even start the installer when I do it that way. Of what I'm seeing at that point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
