Most reviews use these for computer/tv speakers and while I am sure they would be decent at that task, they did not work for me. The speakers sound fantastic, and I can hear many of the wonderful nuances in the recording. Given that, I would think that these speakers would serve very well to be used with one's own recordings. I like the option that you can plug in both headphones and other media directly into the speakers. I also like how you can keep the power button in the back on at all times because there is the on/off option on the front through the volume knob. Multimedia Monitors (Pair): I have read some negative reviews about these speakers and as a result, thought I needed to post a review. First, I have a pair of Studio Monitors that have done well for me for some time however, I was tired of getting in the car and finding out the mix was off. So, I am in the process of broadening my listening arsenal at my desk, so based on the price, I thought I'd take a chance on these.
Second, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE SPEAKERS FOR YOUR MAIN MIXING. They just sound too good. A lot of people say they are Bass heavy and when I first tried them, I felt they were right.(For the size of these speakers, I am amazed at the low end.) Being a bit disappointed, I played some music from my iTunes on my Mac. Really nice sounding speakers. I have a set of Bose Companion that I've been using as my 'Computer Speakers' and these blow them away.
(I originally played a Static Mix I am working on and yes, the low end was heavy and finding this out before mixing down, was the goal for these speakers.) Anyway, basically, for this kind of money, I don't see how you can go wrong or where you're going to get a pair of decent speakers for that price. No, I really wouldn't call them 'Monitors'. As they were part of a bundle I was supposed to send the entire bundle back just to get the speaker's replaced. Since they were shipped in their own box by themselves Musician's Friend made an exception and allowed me to ship them back on their own. The second pair worked flawlessly and came with a number of chords to hook the speakers up to multiple applications.

The sound quality blew me away (especially after my last monitors, also bought at MF, which were awful). The audio response of these new monitors is remarkable up and down the range.
Full and rich up and down, with no bias anywhere that I can hear. The factory packaging was exceptional. Somebody has taken the time to figure out each and every step to make these speakers as simple out of the box as possible.
Obvious as this may seem, in my experience, this part of the process always seems to get the shortest shrift. Kudos to that team.
I never had set-up so easy. If there is any 'problem' with them, as mentioned in another review here, it's that they sound TOO great, which I thought an odd idea at the time. Listening to mixes on every other system I have, though, everything sounds at least a notch or two less fine.
So this must be taken into account at some point in the listening chain. Still, that can hardly be called a criticism.
I wouldn't pass up these fine speakers for anything.
